General waxing questions
Does waxing hurt?
Waxing can feel uncomfortable for a moment, but most clients find it manageable. The anticipation is usually worse than the wax itself.
Your esthetician will guide you through the service and help you stay as comfortable as possible.
Pain often lessens over time with consistent waxing.
Does waxing change how the hair grows back?
Yes, however, waxing does not cause hair to grow back thicker or darker.
Because waxing removes the hair from the root, regrowth typically comes back softer and finer over time.
How long should hair be for waxing?
Hair needs 3–4 weeks of growth (about ¼”–½”) for effective waxing.
If hair is too short for proper removal, services will still be charged at full price.
How can I prepare for a waxing appointment?
For best results:
• Do not trim before your appointment
• Shower beforehand
• Avoid lotion, oils, or self tanner the day of
• Avoid retinoids or prescription skin treatments for 48 hours prior
If your skin is compromised, we may need to modify or reschedule your service. Cancellation policy applies
Compromised skin may include open areas, active irritation, sunburn, rashes, scabs, or sensitivity from recent treatments or medications. Giving your skin time to heal helps prevent irritation and protects your skin’s health.
Can I minimize the pain involved?
Pain varies by person. Caffeine, dehydration, stress, lack of sleep can heighten sensitivity.
We do not recommend topical numbing agents (they interfere with results).
Some clients take an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory about 30 min before their appointment, if it's safe for them to do so.
How long do waxing results typically last?
Most clients enjoy results for two to six weeks after waxing.
Timing varies based on individual hair growth cycles, the area waxed, and how consistently you wax.
With regular appointments, many clients notice slower regrowth and smoother results over time.
I have a special event/vacation coming up, how far in advance should I be waxed?
For the smoothest results, begin waxing two to three months in advance.
Schedule your final wax two to three days before your big event or vacation.
How will my skin react?
Mild redness or sensitivity is normal after waxing.
This usually settles within a few hours as the skin calms.
Avoiding heat, friction, and touching the area will help your skin return to normal more quickly.
How do I help my skin calm down after a wax?
To help your skin recover:
• Avoid heat, sweating, workouts, sexual activity, and hot tubs for 24 hours
• Avoid sun exposure for 24 to 48 hours
• Wear loose, breathable clothing
• Avoid exfoliating for 48 hours
• Begin gentle exfoliation after a few days
• Moisturize daily with an unscented lotion
Mild redness or sensitivity is normal and should subside quickly.
If you have questions or concerns after your appointment, reach out, we’re here to help.
It's my first leg wax, will my skin be smooth?
Leg hair grows in different cycles, which means not all hair is ready to be removed at the same time.
It can take three to four consistent waxes for growth patterns to even out and become more predictable.
During early visits, some shorter hairs may remain. With regular waxing, results become smoother and more consistent over time.
Can I get waxed sooner than 3-4 weeks?
Yes, you can come in sooner than 3 to 4 weeks.
That timing usually gives the smoothest, longest lasting results, but everyone’s hair grows differently. If you grow quickly or are maintaining regularly, earlier appointments can still work.
Just keep in mind that shorter regrowth may mean some hair cannot be removed yet. If you are unsure, text us before booking and we can help you decide.
If the hair is too short when you arrive for the appointment, full service price will still be charged.
What about stray hairs?
We’ll tweeze what we can, but not every hair can be removed on the first visit due to growth cycles. Returning every 3–4 weeks helps smooth results over time.
Please note that stubble from shaving will not be tweezed and that some hairs may be left if they are too short.
What type of wax do you use?
At The Wax Loft, we prioritize skin integrity and precision. We primarily utilize premium, low-temperature soft waxes specifically formulated for sensitive skin to ensure the cleanest hair removal possible.
For our Brazilian services, we use a hybrid approach: we incorporate hypoallergenic hard wax for specific, delicate sections to maximize comfort, while using our high-quality soft wax to ensure every last hair is removed.
Please note: While we use hard wax strategically for comfort, we do not offer 100% hard wax Brazilians. This signature technique allows us to provide smooth results that last two to six weeks with minimal irritation.
Brazilians and bikinis explained
What is a Brazilian wax?
A Brazilian wax removes most or all hair from the front bikini area, including the upper area above the bikini line.
The service also includes the labia and the area between the buttocks, and is performed with utmost care and privacy.
If you prefer to leave some hair, you may choose a small strip or triangle. Let your esthetician know before the service begins so the service can be customized to your preference.
What are bikini and extended bikini waxes?
• Bikini removes hair along a modest underwear line, cleaning up the sides and top that show outside standard swimwear.
• Extended bikini removes more hair from the sides and top for a cleaner, more defined look.
Extended bikini does not include the labia or the area between the buttocks.
Do you offer Brazilian, bikini, or buttocks waxing for clients with male anatomy?
No. Brazilian, bikini, and buttocks waxing services are offered for clients with vulvar anatomy only.
Please call/text 734-327-6300 with questions about service eligibility.
Your comfort, safety and care
Are there any reasons I should not be waxed?
Yes, safety first. Your service will be rescheduled if:
• You are currently using Accutane or have used it within the past year
• You used retinoids,(Differin, Epiduo, Tretinoin, etc.) within the last 48 hours
• You are sunburned
• Your skin is compromised, including open areas, active irritation, rashes, scabs, or recent chemical exfoliation
• You are under 18 without proper consent
Can I get waxed while pregnant?
Yes. Waxing is generally safe during pregnancy unless your doctor advises otherwise.
During pregnancy, skin can be more sensitive and blood flow increases, which may make waxing feel more uncomfortable than usual, especially for bikini and Brazilian services.
Please let us know if you are pregnant when booking so that we can schedule more time. We are happy to move at a gentler pace, adjust positioning, and take breaks as needed to keep you comfortable.
Does The Wax Loft "double dip"?
No. One dip per stick then discard. Sanitation is our priority, and we aim to minimize waste responsibly.
Will my esthetician wear gloves?
Yes. Gloves are worn to protect the safety of both our clients and our service providers.

If for any reason that is not the case, please don't hesitate to reach out!
