POLICIES
MASKS REQUIRED DURING EYEBROW SERVICES, OPTIONAL OTHERWISE
Masks are optional, EXCEPT for during brow services. Due the the nature of eyebrow services, (close proximity to the face for several minutes), for your protection and ours, we will continue to require facial masks during all eyebrow services. Forgot a mask? Don't worry, we have them on hand if needed!
Please cancel as soon as possible if you are feeling sick. Our small business relies on staff remaining healthy; as the nature of our services require close proximity, we greatly appreciate your transparency!
We have increased our already stringent sanitation and disinfection procedures to ensure your safety.
*Treatment rooms and all high touch surface areas are disinfected thoroughly between each client.
*Sanitizer is available throughout the salon; we ask that you sanitize your hands upon entering.
*Service times have been extended to accommodate for additional cleaning.
*No additional people are permitted in the building at this time. Please contact us directly if you have an extenuating circumstance and need to bring someone other than yourself to your scheduled appointment.
Is a credit card required to schedule?
All appointments require a valid credit card on file prior to your service.
If you are a new client OR are an existing client that needs an updated card, we will reach out to securely obtain the information.
In the case that you would prefer your card information not to be stored, cash prepayment is required prior to scheduling an appointment.
How do I book an appointment?
The easiest way is online via our website!!
Additionally, you may text us at 734-327-6300. We will typically respond within 30 minutes, as long as it's during normal business hours.
Feel free to call instead if you'd like! If you happen to reach our voicemail, leave a detailed message and we will get back to you as soon as we can! Often calls/voicemails aren't checked until the next business day so please keep that in mind.
Do you accept Walk-Ins?
We do not, all services are by appointment only.
If you need an appointment right away, please text us as it is the fastest way to get in touch. We typically respond within 30 minutes if it's during business hours.
If you text after business hours, will respond as soon as we can which may be first thing on the next business day.
Can I cancel/reschedule my appointment?
Of course! However...
For services totaling less than $80, we kindly ask for a minimum of 4 hours notice to change or cancel the appointment. Changes given less than 4 hours prior will be automatically charged 50% of the service. If you have been charged the cancellation fee within the last six months and late cancel/no show again, 100% of the service price will be charged. After that, TWL will require prepayment in full for all services going forward.
For services totaling $80 or more, we require a credit card hold and prepayment of the total service price 24 hours prior. We do also require a minimum of 24 hours notice for any appointment changes, including cancelling, rescheduling and changing service types,(changing a Brazilian to Bikini or removing a service altogether for instance). Refunds will not be given for changes made less than 24 hours in advance, and the balance is not transferrable to a rescheduled date.
If you are more than 5 minutes late for your scheduled appointment, please be aware that we may have to reschedule you to a later time, resulting in a no-show fee.
In the case you want to reschedule your upcoming service to a different day/time and have already rebooked online, simply send us a text to let us know and we can cancel the original for you!
Are gratuities accepted?
Absolutely! Gratuities are accepted, GREATLY appreciated and go directly to the service provider!
Wondering how much to leave? Most of our gracious clients follow the service industry standard; 15-20% of the service price.
What if I'm not 18?
You must be 18 or older to receive a wax at our salon.
If you are under the age of 18, a parent/legal guardian will need to fill out our consent form IN PERSON. For all services in the pubic region, ie. Brazilian and Bikini waxes, a parent/legal guardian must remain on site for the duration of the service.
If you are a minor, we will not wax you in the following scenarios:
*You arrive to your first appointment without a parent/legal guardian to sign our consent form.
*You have a consent form on file and arrive to a return wax appointment without a parent/legal guardian present to remain on site during a bikini or Brazilian wax.
In both above instances, the appointment time will be forfeited and you will be charged at full service price.
*There are a few other instances that we will not wax you that do not pertain to age. Please read FAQs thoroughly for details.*
What if my hair is too short? Will I still be charged?
In order for a waxing service to be effective, ESPECIALLY in the case of body waxing (ie. Brazilian, bikini, arms, legs, underarms, back, stomach, chest, buttocks), and first time waxes, the hair must be long enough for the wax to effectively remove it. We suggest a minimum of 3 weeks growth since your last wax or shave for best results.
In the case you arrive for an appointment and there is insufficient hair growth, we will certainly try our best to remove the hair but cannot guarantee a great result. You likely will leave feeling a bit prickly and not perfectly smooth.
Please note: *Services will be charged at full price regardless of insufficient hair growth.*
WAXING
Does waxing hurt?
There is generally some discomfort experienced with waxing. However, it is a quick, temporary sting that stops hurting right away and believe us when we say that the anticipation is much worse than the actual wax!
Waxing tends to hurt more the first time than any other time because your nerves are on edge and you don’t know what to expect.
Good news!! The pain does lessen with consistent waxing! After the first wax, the hair typically grows back finer and more sparse, becomes less prickly, and the skin retains its smoothness much longer.
Does waxing make the hair grow back thicker or darker?
Luckily, no! Waxing will not cause the hair to come back any darker or thicker than it was prior to the removal. In most cases, the hair will be less coarse and less thick post wax! #goals
How long do I have to let my hair grow?
We recommend at least 3-4 weeks of growth or 1/4- 1/2", whichever comes first. This is very important for your first wax and especially true for body waxing (ie. Brazilian, bikini, legs, arms, underarms, back, chest, stomach, butt). When there is insufficient growth the wax is not effective at removal.
*If the hair is too short to be waxed when you arrive for your appointment, please note that you will still be charged full price for the scheduled service.
Is there any way to minimize the pain involved in waxing?
There are many external factors that can affect a person's pain tolerance. Caffeine, lack of sleep, dehydration and stress levels can all contribute to varying pain levels. We recommend being mindful of these factors and planning accordingly. (It would not be ideal to drink a quad shot of espresso right before your appointment, for example!!)
Additionally, timing is key when it comes to any bikini or Brazilian waxing service, as these services are typically more painful about 2 days before and after your period.
We do not suggest using topical numbing agents as they can interfere with the waxing process, leaving less than optimal results.
Some of our clients do say that taking an anti-inflammatory like Advil or Motrin about thirty minutes prior to a wax can help with the initial irritation of waxing.
Can I get a bikini/Brazilian wax while on my period?
Of course!
Situations arise when timing may not work out and you need a wax anyway.
We simply ask that you cleanse the area prior to your appointment, wear a tampon, tuck your string inside, (we know it may seem uncomfortable, but trust us!) or wear a menstrual cup.
Please be aware that you likely will be a bit more sensitive during this time in your cycle.
How do I prepare for a wax?
LET IT GROW
Hair growth is necessary for an effective wax. We recommend 3 weeks minimum! Please do not trim the hair if it has been a long time since shaving or waxing, as this could result in over trimming.
EXFOLIATE
Exfoliation is imperative to reduce dry skin which in turn helps prevent breakage of hair during waxing! 48 hours prior to your appointment, use a mild exfoliant on your skin, followed by a light moisturizer.
Stop in prior to your appointment if you need at-home products! We are happy to offer recommendations!!
SHOWER
We ask that you have showered prior to your waxing appointment and that you do not come straight from a work out, especially in the case of body waxing. Good hygiene before your service will help you to feel more confident in your hair free skin!
STOP USING RETIN A
If you are using prescription skin care meds/over the counter retinols please discontinue use a minimum of 48 hours prior to your appointment. *There may be certain instances that we still may not wax you even if you have discontinued use.
STAY OUT OF THE SUN
Try to be as mindful as possible about sun exposure 24-48 hours prior to your appointment. If you are burned, we will not be able to wax you.
BREATHE
You are in good hands at TWL!!
How long will my waxing last?
The results may last between 2-6 weeks depending on how fast your hair grows and how consistently you have been waxing.
How will my skin react to waxing?
After your first wax, the skin may be a bit red and irritated. This is normal and should calm down within a few hours.
Please keep in mind that no matter how many precautions are taken it is difficult to predict how everyone’s skin may react. Redness, soreness, bumps and bruising are all things that CAN happen.
Feel free to reach out to us if you are having any issues after your appointment as we are always more than happy to help!!
What about stray hairs?
Once the waxing is complete, your esthetician will do her best to remove stray hairs either by tweezing. However, it is virtually impossible to get every single hair simply based on the varying hair growth cycles of each follicle. Know that the more consistent you are with waxing, (returning every 3-4 weeks, for several months, not shaving in between), the more smooth your skin will be!
Please note that stubble will not be tweezed and that some hairs may be left if they are too short.
What is a Brazilian wax?
A Brazilian wax is the removal of hair over the pubic region, labia, and in between the buttocks.
We can also leave a strip or small triangle but please let your esthetician know right away first so that we are aware this is what you would like!
What is the difference between a bikini and an extended bikini wax?
A Bikini wax is the removal of hair 2" from the sides and 1" off the top of a modest panty line. An Extended Bikini Wax is anything more than that excluding the labia and between the buttocks. *Please note that hair removed from the inner thigh will be charged as such.
Does The Wax Loft offer Male Bikini or Brazilian Waxes?
We do not provide the specialized service of bikini or Brazilian waxing on male genitalia simply because this is a service that we are not trained in.
It's my first leg wax, will my skin be smooth?
Leg hair can be tricky to remove fully. Many areas on the legs experience friction against socks, pants, underwear, etc. which can cause the hairs in those areas to be shorter, even when you have been growing out for several weeks since shaving.
Additionally, there are many cycles of hair growth and until we have waxed the area consistently for 3-4 times on average, stubble may likely still be felt.
Please note that likely it will appear as though the hair is gone, but the FEEL of the legs may still be prickly.
What about my underams? I can't go 3-4 weeks between waxes in that area!
Underarm waxing is amazing, especially if you experience a “shadowy skin” appearance after shaving. Waxing can help to minimize that and may even make that appearance go away altogether!
In our experience, it is usually extremely difficult to remove all underarm hair in one session as this area tends to have the most sporadic growth cycle. That said, the more you wax, the more sparse and fine the hair becomes, so it does become more manageable to endure the grow out process over time.
Many of our clients find it best to wax underarms every 2 weeks, and many every 4 weeks. We are happy to work together to find the best schedule that works for you!
I have a special event coming up, (gradation/wedding/vacation/photo shoot etc.), how far in advance should I be waxed?
How exciting!!
In order to ensure smooth skin prior to an event, we recommend receiving 2-3 waxes at consistently timed 4 week intervals. The final wax should ideally be scheduled 2-3 days prior so that your skin has time to calm down from any general irritation that may occur.
If you were unable to start the process ahead of time and your event is this week, please ensure a minimum of 3 weeks of growth and book your service for 2-3 days prior to the event. If this is your first wax, your skin likely will not be perfectly smooth as it does take several waxes to achieve an ideal result.
Additionally, we can not guarantee how your skin will react to waxing so please keep this in mind as you approach your date.
I am pregnant, can I still be waxed?
You sure can!! Unless your doctor recommends you refrain, in the case of a high risk pregnancy for instance, then waxing is absolutely safe from conception all the way up to delivery!
It is likely your skin will be more sensitive, especially during bikini or brazilian services, as blood vessels become closer to the surface with the natural swelling that occurs during pregnancy.
Getting waxed regularly throughout your pregnancy helps minimize discomfort as you get closer to your due date since the hair becomes thinner with consistent removal.
If you are uncomfortable at any point during your service, please let us know and we can prop you with pillows or change positions as needed!
Please add an appointment note if you booked online or let us know via text so that, if possible, we can add extra time to the service in order to make sure we provide the utmost care for you mama!!
Are there any reasons I should not be waxed?
Please disclose prescription skincare medications and over the counter retinols prior to your service! As many medications/ingredients are contraindicative to waxing, it is imperative you let your esthetician know what you are using on your skin so that extra precautions can be made, even as far as rescheduling if needed.
*You should not receive any facial waxing if you are using the following products/ingredients: Retin A, Renova, Differin, Epiduo, Tretinoin.
*If you are on Accutane, we will not wax you and it is not recommended to be waxed for at least a year after you have stopped using it.
*If you have been or plan to be out in the sun within 24-48 hours before or after an appointment, you should not be waxed. If you are sunburned in the area you want waxed, we will not wax you.
*If you are under the age of 18 and do not have parental/legal guardian consent, we will not wax you.
Certain scenarios may arise where it may not be a good idea to wax, above and beyond the things previously mentioned and in such cases your esthetician will discuss the circumstances with you.
Please know that if you are not being waxed for any reason, it is only because we have your skin's best interest at heart!
Does The Wax Loft "double dip"?
Double-dipping is a common practice at many salons, but not at The Wax Loft.
Our waxing sticks are dipped into the wax once, applied to the client once, and then discarded.
We try to be as environmentally friendly as possible; we are aware using multiple sticks creates excess waste, but sanitation is our top priority.
Will my esthetician wear gloves?
Absolutely! We value being as sanitary as possible.
Gloves are worn to protect the safety of both our clients and our service providers.
What if I am self conscious about my body?
We get it! Waxing can be an extremely vulnerable experience with someone you've likely just met!
We truly hope you can set your mind at ease knowing that not only are our estheticians highly trained and extremely skilled at what they do, but they are also caring, nurturing women that have been in the industry for a very, very long time and have owned The Wax Loft since 2009!
Our estheticians have curves, cellulite, stretch marks, hair growth between waxes, have once been young, and are now elder millennial moms.... In other words are just like everyone else in one way or another!!
We truly believe that all bodies are beautiful and likely there isn't much we haven't seen in our almost 20 year careers!
At TWL our goal is to make every client feel comfortable from check in to check out and beyond.
If for any reason that is not the case, please don't hesitate to reach out!
